The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has unveiled its strategic goals for 2025, focusing on digital transformation, service quality enhancement, and fostering stronger networking opportunities among members.
This was disclosed by the Registrar and Chief Executive of ICAN, Lanre Olasunkanmi, during the institute’s maiden team bonding retreat held in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Olasunkanmi emphasized that one of ICAN’s key priorities for 2025 was embracing technology through the launch of a “Digital Institute.” This initiative aims to allow seamless interaction among members and the organization, regardless of location. “I don’t need to come to the office to meet you one-on-one. I can sit anywhere, interact with the system, and get everything done. This would increase productivity he explained.
The team bonding retreat, described as the first in ICAN’s 59-year history, provided an informal setting for staff and their family members to relax and strengthen interpersonal relationships.
Attendees participated in various games and fun activities at the beach, creating a lively atmosphere. Olasunkanmi highlighted the retreat as part of ICAN’s corporate culture agenda, which recognizes the need for work-life balance. “All work without play makes not only Jack a dull boy but also ICAN staff dull people. This retreat is a chance to bond and build teamwork in a relaxed mood,” he said.
The event also served as a platform to reflect on ICAN’s accomplishments in 2024 and prepare for an even more impactful year ahead. According to the Registrar, the institute had recorded significant success across its programs this year, and the focus for 2025 would be on achieving an “aggressive turnaround” in activities to surpass previous achievements.
He added that ICAN was gearing up to celebrate its 60th anniversary in September, 2025. The milestone will highlight six decades of excellence in the accounting profession. “We will show the world that we have been on the ground for the past 60 years, delivering quality programs and service,” Olasunkanmi noted.
