CHIEF Francis Aiyeg­beni, owner of D’Rovans Hotel (now Wallan Hotel) in Ibadan, Oyo state and a famous boxing enthusiast in Nigeria, is dead.

Daily Sun gathered that the deceased, who is from Esan in Edo State, died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan on Saturday after­noon after he lost a battle with stroke and cardiac related issues.

A source at Wallan Ho­tel, Moshood Abiola Way (Ring Road), Ibadan, con­firmed that Aiyegbeni, who played important roles to uplift the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), died on Sat­urday morning.

It was gathered that the deceased, who reportedly had a protracted battle with partial stroke, was rushed to the Police Hos­pital at Eleyele, Ibadan on Friday when his condi­tion deteriorated and was later transferred to UCH from the hospital.

“On getting to UCH, he was immediately taken into the ICU of the hospi­tal. He was being treated for cardiac-related issues at UCH when he stopped breathing,” the source said.

Meanwhile, a condo­lence register has been opened at the Wallan Hotel, which has three blocks of over 100 rooms and suites, a recording studio, shopping com­plexes, poolside, bou­tiques, saloon, VIP bar and restaurant.
