I stand by the law –Uzodinma

The Senator representing Imo West, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has declared that he has not taken sides in the on-going PDP crisis but was rather standing by the position of the law on the matter.
Uzodinma, who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Aviation, made his position on the crisis known in an interview with journalists at the week in Abuja while reacting to an allegation that he was supporting the embattled acting Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Amodu Sheriff.
He argued that a court of competent jurisdiction had declared that the position of National Chairman of PDP was not vacant and that as a law abiding citizen he is standing by the declaration of the court.
He said: “I am not taking sides. It is not about supporting Mr. A or Mr. B but about supporting the position of the law. A Lagos Federal High Court declared that the position of National Chairman is not vacant and it is only reasonable that the person in that position should continue until the matter in court is finally disposed off.”
He explained that it was because of the court order that the Port-Harcourt Convention was postponed adding that a caretaker arrangement is strange to the PDP constitution wondering how the issue of setting up a caretaker committee for the Party should have come up at all when there is no provision for it in the constitution and against a federal high court ruling.
But he admitted that the Convention Committee which was chaired by Governor NyesomWike of Rivers State, angered him by changing the congress results of eight Local Government Areas in Orlu zone after the results have been ratified by the NEC of the Party, adding that the action was in bad faith and that Governor Wike did not deny it when he confronted him.
On the controversy over where the PDP National Chairmanship was zoned to, the Senator explained that it was initially zoned to the South by the Ekweremadu Committee port election report but that a Convention Zoning Committee later agreed to retain the position in the North-east until a presidential candidate of the Party is elected from the North.
Uzodinma advised PDP Governors to reconsider their stand on the issue in order to save the party from the present disagreement.
But he remained confident that in spite of the crisis the PDP will overcome and come out stronger as one family.
