The Labour Party (LP) Imo State governorship aspirant, AIG (Dr) Charles Ugomuoh, has rolled out an eight-point agenda, outlining his plans to restore the state’s greatness if elected.

Ugomouoh at a press briefing, Tuesday in Abuja, unveiled the agenda ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries and the state’s November elections.

If elected, he claims that his government will implement a new system of good governance in Imo State that will address concerns with social infrastructure, power, health, education, security, and road infrastructure.

He asked the state’s citizens to hold him and his party accountable if they ever fell short of their expectations and pledged that his government would be open, transparent, and citizen-driven.

He also vowed to use his expertise as a security expert and a former Assistant Inspector General of Police to bring sanity to the state.

According to him, “We would ensure government and community relationship .is in top gear for free flow of information.

“As a Security expert, the security of Imo State will be intelligence-driven, and proactive with the deployment of technology. There would be the safety of lives and properties. Trade and investment will return to Imo State and our sons and daughters and investors would be encouraged to return to Imo State. Imo State would be peaceful again.

On education and Information Communications Technology (ICT) he noted that: “A thorough appraisal of Primary and Secondary education would be carried out in Imo State. Quality infrastructure would be put in place for improved learning. Hard work would be encouraged with improved remuneration for Teachers. Examination malpractices and cheating in Schools would be stamped out.

“Government would encourage ICT penetration to drive business and the economy. We would create a World Class ICT hub in Imo State to provide employment to the teaming ICT-savvy Imo youths.”

The police chief also said that the new Imo State Government would collaborate with specialist foundations around the world to establish specialist healthcare services to serve the healthcare challenges of the Imo people and South East region.

“We would encourage the return of Imo Medical Professions with improved incentives and remunerations. Cottage hospitals would be established for primary health care and Government Hospitals would be equipped for improved health services,” he said.

He further declared affirmative action will be taken to increase the representation of women in the Imo State Government, and women and young people would both have access to opportunities for entrepreneurship and wealth creation.

The security expert said he would raise budgetary provisions for road infrastructure and dualise the roads in response to the poor roads that are present throughout Imo state and what he would do differently to stop the ugly trend.

As for what can be done to return sports to its former glory and put them back in the spotlight in the state, AIG Ugomuoh stated that inadequate compensation for athletes as well as their coaches, along with outdated facilities, are to blame for the lack of development in the sports industry. By inspiring the athletes and their head coaches, providing sufficient training facilities, and hiring top-notch instructors, he promised to buck this unpleasant trend.
