In a music scene dominated by the pulsating rhythms of Afrobeats, one artist is steadfastly preserving the soul of Highlife. Femi Odewole, known to his fans as Femi Guitar, is a virtuoso guitarist whose dedication to the genre has made him a beacon of traditional sound in contemporary Nigerian music.
For nearly two decades, Femi Guitar has remained true to his craft, carving a unique path through the industry.
“I play virtually all musical instruments, but the guitar is my major, that’s why they call me Femi Guitar,” the Chemical Engineering graduate from LAUTECH told Saturday Sun.
His professional music career began in 2005, marked by a pivotal performance at a house party that transformed his initial stage fright into unwavering confidence.
Since then, Femi Guitar has navigated the complexities of the Nigerian music industry, prioritizing live performances and a blend of genres while staying rooted in Highlife.
“In Nigeria’s music industry, raw talent is only part of the equation. The real battle is fought in the fields of branding, strategy, and market positioning,” he stated.
Beyond his performance prowess, Femi Guitar is a strategic investor in his career. His 2024 EP, “Rep Your School Compilation,” was a calculated move to expand his reach and solidify his brand. He is currently working on a new album, emphasizing consistency and growth.
His philosophy, “Live and let others live, take life simple,” and his advice to young musicians, “Be consistent and be prayerful,” reveal a grounded artist focused on longevity.
