More details of the abduction of the Enogie (Duke) of Ukhiri, Barrister Godwin Aigbe, has emerged.

The Enogie was abducted last week by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to a close family source, contrary to earlier reports that the kidnappers took the Enogie away in his Nissan car, they took him inside their old Mercedes Benz car to the coastal area of the community, from where they sped away in a boat after they set their own vehicle on fire.

The Enogie, the source said, had earlier requested for more security in the area owing to the ongoing crisis in his community, stating that when he saw the kidnappers, he was extending a handshake when they told him they had come to take him away.

“On Saturday, he was sitting outside and was preparing to go out. He was still in his pair of shorts and singlet when they came. They were four altogether; it was three of them that came close to where he was. One was at the junction and the others were walking towards the palace from a distance while he was sitting outside.

“On sighting them, he stretched his hand for a handshake but they dragged him and told him they came for him. They took him inside the old Mercedes Benz car they came in with and took a road to the other side of Ukhiri; then they drove towards the bank of the river. When they got there, they burnt they set their own car ablaze took him away in a boat.

“The way and manner they carried out the action, one would suspect they came from outside the community because they took him out to the bank of the river, burnt their car and took him away in a boat. They did not take him away in his car as people have been saying,” the source said.
