Hoodlums yesterday set ablaze one police van at Ukwagba village, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
It was gathered that the hoodlums, said to be members of a pro Biafran group, also shot sporadically to scare citizens, in a bid to enforce the seven days sit-at-home order declared by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Simon Ekpa. The incident happened at a check in the area.
The hoodlums also attacked Ishieke market and set a tricycle ablaze. In a viral video, the hoodlums, who came in an ash-coloured Sienna bus, were seen shooting sporadically at Ishieke market junction. The hoodlums, who wore red and black overall, were seen upturning traders’ business tables, shouting Nnamdi Kanu must be released.
Chairman, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Odono Ikechukwu, who confirmed the attack, called on stakeholders of the council to cooperate with security agencies to fish out the hoodlums.
Also reacting, Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Jude Okpor, urged citizens of the state to go about their normal businesses as security agencies were on top of the situation.
“The state government has observed with dismay, apprehension in some parts of the state following reported activities of hoodlums and unscrupulous elements.
The government, therefore, wishes to advise the general public to go about their lawful businesses as security agents are on top of the situation,” he said.
