Five operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, were injured by suspected hoodlums at the Awo Command in Egbedore Local Government Area on Friday, May 9.
The incident began when the Oniwoye of Iwoye, Oba Adebusoye Oyebamiji, reported an unauthorised burial on community ancestral land. Four Amotekun operatives were dispatched to investigate, but the burial had already occurred upon their arrival. According to Corps spokesperson Yusuf Idowu Abass, a notorious fugitive, Ismaila Aluko, emerged with armed accomplices and launched a brutal attack, injuring the operatives.
“The operatives tactically withdrew to the Awo Command to seek reinforcement. However, in a shocking turn of events, the hoodlums regrouped and staged a second attack on the Amotekun office in Awo,” Abass said in a Monday statement.
The assault occurred in the presence of Nigeria Police Force officers, a Department of State Services (DSS) agent, and the assailants’ family members. The attackers attempted to disarm the operatives, inflicting serious injuries.
One operative sustained severe injuries, while four others had minor wounds. All were rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment. “This violent act represents a direct threat to the security and peace of our communities and will not be tolerated,” Abass stated, adding that the Corps is collaborating with security agencies to arrest and prosecute those involved.
