No fewer than 10 warehouses hoarding essential commodities, including food items in Kano State have been sealed by the Kano Public Complaint and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC).
The operation which took place on Sunday at the Dawanau International Grains Market in the state was led by the chairman of the Commission Muhyi Magaji Rimingado,
Items that featured prominently in the warehouses included rice, maize, millets,, beans, different brands of spaggetti and soaps among others.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the operation, Muhuyi said the owners of the warehouses have been invited to the Commission for further investigation, adding that those found guilty of hoarding would be charged to court.
“As you can see, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC) has made true its promise to embark on fight against hoarding of essential commodities in the state,” he stated.
“We started last Thursday and we have made a significant impact towards stopping the instant rise in the prices of essential commodities”
“By God’s grace ftom what we have done so far, we are certain that there has been a positive impact. From here we are going to the markets to ascertain the situation( the expected price drop)
“As you can see now we are going round the warehouses and we met a lot of issues which after we go back to the office we are going to digest.
“One fundamental problem is in each store we enter they claim that it was the World Bank Food Program Store. We wonder if the World food program will starve the country while taking the food somewhere else” he stated.
Muhuyi warned those engaged in the illegal activity of hoarding to desist from making life more difficult for all, saying that they have activated their intelligence to track any warehouse which engages in hoarding in the state.
