Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia have attacked Umogidi community of Entekpa Ward in Adoka District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State and killed two people.

Our correspondent reports that the fresh attacks is coming two days after attacks claimed 17 lives in three affected communities of Iwili, Umogidi and Opaha in same Entekpa Ward of Adoka district in Otukpo LGA.

An indigene of the area, Adakole Joseph, told newsmen that the two people killed were his uncle and cousin while a few others were injured.

“They (invaders) attacked Umogidi again in the evening of Thursday 8th February 2024, and killed some persons and left others injured.

“Two confirmed dead so far. One was my uncle and the other a cousin,” Joseph said.

The Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Alfred Omakwu, confirmed the attack to our correspondent on telephone, saying that two youths were gunned down by the assailants who equally engaged the military.

Omakwu, however, said calm was observed on Friday despite threats from the armed invaders that they were still coming to attack.

“From Friday, there has been calm and the military presence has increased. But we are still receiving threats from them (invaders). Two of our youths were killed on Thursday. On the point of their (invaders) entry, they engaged those ones and the military too.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said she had not received any report of attack in Otukpo.
