Armed gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia, on Sunday, attacked two communities in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State and killed three people.
Daily Sun gathered that the herdsmen numbering 10, that early Sunday, invaded and attacked Tse Gamber in Sengev Council Ward and killed four people.
A source from the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, further said the herdsmen also attacked an IDPs camp, at Nagi, Mbachohon Council Ward, located along Naka-Agagbe road, in the evening, and killed three people and injured others. He said the attack was unprovoked as they were not at loggerheads with the herders before the attack.
“The bodies of those killed are yet to be removed for fear of another attack,” the source said, and called on security agencies to come to their aid.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack. In a message to newsmen, Anene said: “That is my village. Three of my cousins were killed. That is the total number.”
