From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa
The Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa State governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah has declared that the Senator Douye Diri led administration will do more on the development of the state if given the second mandate.
According to him, Senator Diri means well for Bayelsa and is prepared to focus more on areas of roads Infrastructure, security, education, health among others.
Alabrah while speaking with members of the Federated Correspondent’s Chapel of the “NUJ” Bayelsa state council during the “Correspondent’s Forum” organized by the chapel, said the governor if re-elected back into office will continue with the urban renewal he has started already.
According to him, part of the urban renewal is to light up the state capital and by doing so reduce crime and discourage every form of criminal activities.
“Talking about roads, the government of Senator Douye Diri is creating roads to rural areas through the three senatorial roads. The over 60 years Yenagoa/Oporoma road is now at an advanced stage because people can now drive to the Angiama community. You can imagine seeing a car driving into their community for the first time. You see, the people were overjoyed.
This is courtesy of the governor, Senator Douye Diri.
“Oporoma has almost the highest oil well in Nigeria, yet the multinationals operating there have not deemed it fit to construct roads for the people, not even the Nigerian government that is enjoying the wealth of the area. This government took over from where the previous government stopped and has taken the road to Angiama. The Oporoma bridge will be one of the governor’s landmark achievements when completed. The government is trying to open up the state through roads.”
“We want to get to the Atlantic Ocean through the Sagbama/ Ekeremor. The road reaching Ekeremor is not enough, but we want to get to the Atlantic Ocean to access the Blue Economy while that of Nembe/Brass is also ongoing”.
On education he said the Diri administration has built six additional new schools while several others have been renovated with updated internet facilities.
Alabrah also added that the government has also set up technical schools in all the local government areas.
“As we speak, the process of engaging more teachers is ongoing. The prosperity government also embarked on human capital development where about 5,000 people have been trained in vocational training and were empowered to start up their own businesses. “Not only that, the governor also gives out loans to small scale business owners of two hundred thousand naira per person in all the 105 wards across the state and the government is using that to empower four persons per Ward. It was initially fifty million naira but the governor has increased it to hundred million naira”.
Alabrah noted that Senator Diri has also prioritised the welfare of civil servants in the state by paying their salaries regularly while also clearing arrears of pension and gratuities.
