Officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army’s Guards Brigade have been urged to work hard to secure the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs from criminals activities.
Commander of the brigade Brigadier-General Umar Musa gave the charge at the 2018 West Africa Social Activities (WASA) in Abuja.
Gen Musa, while noting that the brigade has lived up to its responsibility of providing security for the president, his immediate family, very important personalities, the FCT and its surrounding states, assured residents of their safety and property as they go about their legitimate business.
Musa, while congratulating officers and soldiers for their commitment and dedication to duty in the outgone year, highlighted WASA as a socio-cultural ceremony where troops display their rich cultural heritage with traditional dances and local foods from their various tribes, and that it plays an important role to the younger generations born outside their communities of service.
He spoke of WASA, which dates back to the Second World War, as an age long military tradition aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for relaxation for officers and soldiers and their families to socialize with their civilian friends at the end of a training year.
“It is also an occasion where formations and units showcase their achievement.
He said the brigade has achieved the objective of the training year to improve professionalism and sustain regimentation.
