The Government Secondary School, Owerri, Old Boys’ Association gathered for their annual end-of-year banquet, award presentation and fundraiser at the Penninsula Hotel, Lagos, recently.
The primary objective of the gala was to raise funds for an Investment and Educational Trust Fund, to ensure and sustain the wellbeing of current and former students, as well as support infrastructural development and maintenance of the institution.
In his speech, the branch chairman of the association, Sir. Franklin Okukwu, said: “Today, we are not only celebrating our successes over the past year, we also feel we should honour a few of our members for their commitment to this association as well as our friends and partners who not only believe in our mission and have stood by us, they have also done exceptionally well in their respective industries and for our nation, Nigeria.”
Individuals graced the star-studded event, each recognized for their outstanding contributions to the society and their alma mater.
Among the honorees was Elder Nath Okoro, a towering figure at almost 93, who was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bashorun J. K. Randle III, a life member of the old boys association. Others, who received recognition, were Sir Moshe Amaechi, Dr. Irrechukwu and Sir Victor Okoronkwo as patrons while Dr. Felix Ohiwere and Dr. Ndi Onuakwusi were invested as grand patrons, marking their commitment to the institution’s growth and development.
The chief launcher of the endowment fund, Mike Onuoha, spearheaded efforts to raise funds to ensure the sustainability of the institution for generations to come.
