On Tuesday, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State inaugurated the 7th State Executive Council (Exco) of the state.
The new exco which is the 7th since the return to democracy in 1999, comprises 17 commissioners, the Deputy Governor governor, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the state’s Head of Civil Service who will assist the Governor in implementing his policies and programs. The team is expected to work closely with the Governor to ensure that the dividends of democracy are felt by the people of the state.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the SSG Prof Abubakar Njodi disclosed that the state governor congratulated the new and reappointed members of the Exco in his inaugural speech at the meeting which was held at the Exco chamber at the Government House in Gombe.
Njodi disclosed that the Governor urges the new council members to prioritize the course of good governance and delivering on the mandate of his administration. He also challenged them to support his government’s effort to transform the state.
The SSG further explained that Governor Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development of the state through the provision of social amenities, infrastructure, and agricultural development as well as the new drive for industrialization and development of commercial activities in the state.
According to Njodi, while calling on members of the Exco to focus on teamwork with a view to upholding the campaign promises of the administration, the Governor equally called on the citizens to join hands with the government in building a better and prosperous Gombe State.
The SSG added that going forward in the next four years, the administration is looking to prioritize investments and moving Gombe from a civil state to a commercial venture as well as diversifying the state’s economy. He said, “Our major focus now will be on how to place on a pedestrian of being an industrial state”.
