…..Appeal Court’s Decision Stands

From Abel Leonard, Lafia

The Senior Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on public Affairs Comrade Peter Ahemba has said the recent demonstration purportedly organized by individuals allegedly affiliated with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has drawn attention to the ongoing political rift following the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s election victory.

The protest, which contested the Appeal Court’s decision upholding Governor Sule’s legitimacy, sparked controversy, with accusations directed at the PDP for orchestrating the rally.

The Court of Appeal had overturned the split verdict of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, solidifying Governor Sule’s position as the rightfully elected Governor of Nasarawa State, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the March 18th, 2023 governorship election.

Ahemba In a statement on Monday made available to journalist said the Governor’s supporters have staunchly backed his legitimacy, emphasizing the populace’s mandate granted during the election and rebuffing alleged attempts by the PDP to wrest power unlawfully.

He however stated that the staged protest led by a group identified as the “Coalition of Indigenous People of Nasarawa State” has raised concerns about potential ethnic agendas influencing the state’s political landscape. The protest aimed to discredit the Appeal Court’s ruling, questioning the judiciary’s integrity and attempting to involve the international community in the state’s internal affairs.

He labelled the protest as a power-seeking move that could incite hatred among citizens. Calling on security agencies to monitor and address such inflammatory rhetoric from the opposition and its affiliated groups.

Ahemba also highlighted the irony of the PDP’s accusations of external interference, juxtaposed with allegations that the party itself sought external support in its quest for power, after failing to secure the electorate’s favor.
