With a spectacular blend of glitz, glamour and elegance, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, the monarch of Ikateland, a ritzy Lagos coastal community, hosted a double celebration of his 49th birthday and 15th coronation anniversary on Sunday April 27. The atmosphere was electric as the memorable occasion brought together a remarkable assemblage of Nigeria’s crème de la crème across traditional, political, corporate, and business spheres inside the exquisite Monarch Events Centre, along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos to celebrate with and pay tribute to one of Nigeria’s most influential monarchs.

Walking into the venue, one would pinch oneself twice as the décor was heavenly. It was a perfectly executed evening of heartfelt moments and pure royalty that has defined the meaning of what ‘class and elegant’ is. From the correct lighting that had uniquely designed chandeliers hanging on the roof, with glowing small drops making the whole set up look like it was drizzling diamonds inside, the musical background as belted out by Akin Shuga and his iconic band warmed up guests as they took their seats to celebrate the King’s birthday in style. Highlights included tributes, and heartfelt messages lauding Oba Elegushi’s reign, which has been marked by progressive leadership, community development, and the promotion of cultural values. Indeed, the coronation anniversary party was a colourful showcase of tradition, excellence, and goodwill.

The grand celebration was the climax of the month-long activities of the 15th coronation anniversary of the cosmopolitan monarch. The anniversary was grander than any before, leaving attendees with lasting memories of a month-long programme filled with joy and celebration.

Ascending the throne on April 27, 2010, Oba Elegushi embodies virtues such as diligence, excellence, and integrity. His 15 years on the throne have been marked by purposeful leadership and a steadfast commitment to advancing his people. In celebration of the significant milestone, Oba Elegushi, through his foundation, announced the allocation of N200 million to support small and medium-sized enterprises and students within the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State.

Legal luminary and Chairman of the 15th Coronation Anniversary, Dr. Muiz Banire SAN said the initiative aims to provide financial assistance and resources to local entrepreneurs and students, thereby stimulating economic growth and enhancing educational opportunities.

Oba Elegushi has consistently demonstrated a commitment to education and community development. Notably, he built and donated a multipurpose, fully-equipped Lagos History Research Centre at the Lagos State University (LASU), his alma mater. This centre serves as a hub for researching the socio-cultural, economic, and political development of Lagos State, reflecting the monarch’s dedication to preserving and promoting the state’s rich history.
