Executive Director of Keen British School, Lagos, Mrs. Bose Oyekanmi, has urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to give more support to education and help secure tha nation’s future.
Speaking at the graduation and prize-giving ceremony in Lagos recently, she insisted that government support for private sector initiative in the educational sector is not encouraging.
“We are all aware of the pathetic economic condition of the nation, funding is the most demanding challenge in Nigeria. You see graduates of first class honours roaming the streets of Lagos without jobs. Even those that would have loved to own businesses don’t have the needed capital to start up their own business. Same thing applies to the educational sector. Nobody aids you in anyway, no government support, nothing at all, it’s just between you and your God.”
She beckoned on government to support and review some laws that are inimical and obnoxious to the educational sector.
“Despite the fact that we don’t get support from government, some of their laws are inimical to us. If a school bus has pictures of students, the government will disturb you through Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), the government need to be sensitive to our plights, support and relax some laws in the state in order to give hope to those of us in the private sector.”
The event celebrated the graduating students and those with outstanding performances in various classes.
