Enugu gov’s projects spark jubilation in Owo community

From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

It was a day of jubilation in Ndiagu Owo, Nkanu East Local Government, Enugu State, as indigenes turned out in their numbers on June 9, 2025, to honour and celebrate Governor Peter Mbah. Their action followed what they described as a remarkable transformation of their lives and land in just two years of his administration.

Accompanied by their traditional ruler, town union executives, women leaders and other stakeholders, they paid a thank-you visit to the governor’s residence in Ashishi Owo, where they presented a fattened cow as a symbol of appreciation. Traditional ruler of Ndiagu Owo, Igwe Gabriel Ezeh, said: “My community decided to come and show appreciation for a lot of things the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has done for us in our families and all the six communities in Owo. That is why we are here to appreciate him.

“For decades, we have been suffering. We used wheelbarrows and keke to transport our goods. The road was so bad. That is why he decided to start working on that road. My community is the first community where the governor tarred roads in Owo.

“Apart from that, our women were not able to convey their goods to the market. There was no light. There was no water. We lacked so many things. No government looked out for us, except Peter Mbah. We thank God for what he has done.

“The fact is that if you check all other communities, everyone is rejoicing. But happiness is more here in Ndiagu Owo. My message to him is that the God we serve will give him the strength to do more. He has done enough, but we believe that he will do more.

“Let him continue the good thing he has come to Enugu State to do. We will continue to appreciate him. He is a good man. He has compassion and the spirit of brotherhood. God will continue to guide him even in old age. Nobody will be able to challenge him.”

President-general of Ndiagu Owo, Ephraim Okoh, declared: “As a community, we are overwhelmed and have come to show appreciation. He started by giving us a transformer. For decades, we had been in darkness while other villages enjoyed the dividends of democracy, even from the past administration. But this administration remembered us.

“As we speak, there is uninterrupted power supply to our community. He also built a solar-powered borehole for our people. Again, he tarred the road that is more than 15 kilometres from the junction to our community. “We are here to show appreciation for what he has done. I am sure that he will be re-elected in 2027. He is the best-performing governor in Nigeria as it stands. What he is doing is speaking for him. What we are asking for is for God to give him good health to finish what he started. Tomorrow, as he said, is here.”

For Margaret Egbo, the women leader of Ndiagu Owo: “You can see we are walking with our shoulders high. And the testimonies are there all over the place. Enugu people are proud, and we are prouder. Our prayer remains the same as we told him the day when he was still vying for this position.

“We told him that we have only two things as a gift. We are standing in prayer at the altar of God for him. Ndiagu Owo will not fail to pray for him, anyday, anytime. We asked God to give him good health so that he will be able to run the affairs of this state.

“We know that after his second tenure, he will go to Abuja. We are still at the Genesis. We know that God will guide him. You can see the faces of our people. It is now that we know that there is a government in Enugu State.”

Another stakeholder, Chris Chidozie, said: “This is a day of celebration. We are celebrating our brother and illustrious son. We are celebrating his two years in office. We are celebrating the great achievement that he has done so far in Enugu State, the transformation he has brought.

“We are so proud of him. He is an innovative governor. He has introduced a lot of transformation in this state and we are very proud of him and that is why we gathered together to celebrate him. We are people that appreciate every good thing.

“They say that it is in the eating of the pudding that you know the taste. If you look at this place, you will see a highway leading to many towns and local governments, and that is how it is happening all over this state.”

The event featured songs of praise, cultural displays and photo sessions.
