The Christy Ray Okoye Foundation last weekend gave succour to the less privileged residing around St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland, Lagos, with cash donations to the widows and gift items to children.
The visioner and driving force of the foundation, Mrs. Christy Ray Okoye, explained why her foundation deemed it necessary to have the outreach on Easter Monday.
She said it was part of the non-profit organisation’s activities yearly to go out among the people and spread the Good News in words and acts of kindness. Mrs. Okoye emphasised that the outreach was also guided by the instructions of Jesus Christ to his followers to “love one another.”
“The greatest commandment by God is, love thy neighbour as thyself. And when Christ appeared to his disciples on Easter Monday, he reassured them he was still with them and they should go and spread the gospel,” she said.
“Galilee Day is celebrated in the Catholic Church once every year; that is the Monday immediately after Easter. Easter Monday was that day Jesus Christ appeared to his disciples after his death and resurrection and commanded them to go and spread the gospel. In the Catholic Church, we see the day as an opportunity to show love and spread the gospel by living the life of Christ. The greatest commandment is, love to thy neighbour as thyself.”
According to her, the Christy Ray Okoye Foundation had decided to key into that practice of showing love to the community around St. Agnes Catholic Church, by giving cash to 40 widows, even as over 200 children got assorted Easter gifts at the gathering.
Aside from that, the foundation organised a remarkable event with food, drinks and music to spice up the afternoon.
Food and drink was organised by the St. Agnes Catholic community Maryland and with the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Fadairo, in attendance.
