The Premier League has mourned Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, who died in a Thursday auto crash in Spain.

Liverpool confirmed Jota’s death, alongside his brother Andre Silva, in an official statement.

The duo was reportedly travelling in a Lamborghini which careened off the road and burst into flames after suffering a tyre blow out near Zamora, in northwestern Spain.

The Portuguese left behind three young children and wife Rute, whom he married on June 22.

In a condolence post on Facebook, the Premier League said 28-year-old Jota was a champion who would be forever missed.

The PL commiserated with the victim’s family, friends, Liverpool FC and their supporters over the player’s demise.

The statement reads, “Everyone at the Premier League is shocked and devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre.

“Our sincerest condolences go to Diogo’s family, friends, Liverpool FC, and all their supporters at this heartbreaking time.

“Football has lost a champion who will be forever missed. We will continue to support our friends and colleagues at the club.”
