Flour Mills of Nigeria, a food processing company, has inaugurated a solar-powered clean water plant it financed for the Gbaji-Yeke community in Badagry, Lagos State.

This milestone was achieved in partnership with the Lagos State Government, under the esteemed One Community At A Time (OCAAT) project, which aims to address the specific needs of grassroots communities and provide sustainable solutions.

The solar-powered clean water plant is meant to serve as a testament to FMN’s unwavering commitment to driving sustainable growth across Nigeria.

The project not only addresses a fundamental need for clean and accessible water but also aligns with the company’s organizational sustainability outlook and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, which seeks to ensure access to safe water sources and sanitation for all.

By leveraging renewable energy sources, FMN is showcasing its dedication to environmental stewardship and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.

Group HR and services director of FMN, Wale Adediran, was enthusiastic about the project and its transformative impact on the Gbaji-Yeke community.

He said: “We are proud to partner with the Lagos State Government through the One Community At A Time project to deliver this solar-powered clean water plant.

“This initiative exemplifies our commitment to community development, sustainable practices, and positively impacting the lives of Nigerians. Access to clean water is a basic human right, and we are delighted to play a role in ensuring its availability to the residents of Gbaji-Yeke.”

The event was graced by Mrs. Folashade Sherifat Jaji, Secretary to the State Government; permanent secretary, Office of Secretary to the State Government/Cabinet Office, Mrs. Tolani Oshodi, member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency 1, Hon. Solomon Bonu, the Baale of Gbaji-Yeke, Chief Emmanuel Kuwakanu,  and other Gbaji-Yeke community leaders.

Mrs. Jaji expressed her excitement about the project and its impact on Gbaji-Yeke.

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and this project ensures Gbaji-Yeke residents can access this vital resource.
