Five persons were killed and 10 others injured following an explosion that occurred at the Eastern Bypass axis of the metropolis of Kano State.

The explosion happened on Saturday, June 21, 2025, when a military mortar bomb, suspected to be on a truck carrying carbine, exploded in the area.

Kano Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, confirmed the explosion and said the incident was being investigated.

According to him, the vehicle involved in the incident came from Yobe State, but he did not confirm whether the personnel were directly affected or not.

“Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer coming from Yobe, but it remains unclear whether the vehicle was carrying military personnel or civilians,” he added.

He cautioned that authorities were yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion or the ownership of the explosives.

“Security agencies are currently investigating the incident. The facts will be clearer once the investigation is completed,” he stated while urging the public to remain calm.

The victims were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), where five were confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty and 10 were receiving treatment.

He assured that the police would conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

He pleaded with the public to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as they work to unravel the cause of the incident.

The police are working to identify the cause of the explosion and determine the extent of the damage.”
