Niger State Governor, Rt Hon Mohammed Umaru Bago has flagged off the 90km Zungeru-Bida road construction being funded by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) with a promise of a more collaborations with the federal government in order to bring more development to the state.
The governor who described as worrisome the level of infrastructural decay his administration inherited, said the need to collaborate with the federal government to address years of neglect of critical infrastructure in the state had become necessary.
The Governor stated this in Bida on Friday when he performed the groundbreaking of the 90 km federal highway linking the acient town of Zungeru with Bida to be funded by FIRS/NNPC.
The road which connects over 50 communities between Zungeru in Wushishi local government and Bida in Bida local government areas of the state, was last constructed in 1983 and has become a nightmare for both motorists and commuters for several years.
Governor Bago who expressed regrets over the deplorable condition of the road, thanked the federal government for the construction of the road, adding that respite has finally come for the people of over 50 communities in the area.
He therefore urged the youth in the area to make use of the opportunity of the construction of the road to earn legitimate money by availing themselves to the contractor handling the project.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented at the flag off of the road project by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Idris Malagi said the road, when completed, would pave way for improved socio-economic activities in the area.
He commended the Governor for his tireless efforts towards transforming the State in line with his administration’s new Niger agenda.
The President appealed to the people to place national interest ahead of personal interest regardless of any sentiment, assuring that the Federal Government will continue to work closely with State Governments to ensure rapid development of the country
Also speaking, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the project is the continuation of the road network in the country being undertaking under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.
He described the President Tinubu as a focused, committed and fearless leader, determined to bring the desired development to the country.
Representative of the Gerawa Global Engineering Nigerian Ltd, the company handling the project, appreciated the Federal government for the privilege to execute the project while promising to deliver a standard project.
