The Federal Government has said it would build one million houses for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable citizens at the cost of N3 million each.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, stated this when she inspected a prototype of the one and two-bed rooms houses, yesterday, at Idu industrial area, Abuja.

Edu explained that government would commit 30 per cent of the funds, while the communities and development partners would provide 70 per cent.

According to her, the initiative would create jobs for the locals and shore up their daily earnings.

“So, for one million households is the target. one million household will simply translate to an average of five million Nigerians receiving shelter across the country. Now, we are not building them here and the reason is because we do not have millions of IDPs here.”

The minister assured the IDPs and international partners that the houses would be of standard because the people would be involved directly.
