The Federal Government and Oyo State Government have commended Planet 3R, an integrated waste recycling and manufacturing firm, for its initiative in empowering 97 youths in Oyo State through a waste-to-wealth program.
Speaking at the Transform West Africa Project’s product demonstration and certification ceremony in Ibadan, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Arc. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, highlighted that the initiative extends beyond mere recycling advocacy. Represented by the Director of Environmental Health Services, Mrs. Bukola Areo, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.
“Our government is continuously working to implement policies that promote recycling, waste-to-wealth initiatives, and environmental education,” Mogbonjubola stated. He assured Planet 3R of the government’s partnership in expanding the initiative’s impact.
The event featured an exhibition of locally made recycled products by the 97 participants, who completed a six-week training program.
Mrs. Iyabo Ojogbede, Manager of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in Oyo State, expressed the agency’s willingness to collaborate with Planet 3R on future initiatives aligning with its objectives. She lauded the firm for its efforts in youth and women empowerment and pledged continued support.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Oyo State Youth Development Agency, Mr. Falana Adebowale, congratulated the participants and emphasized the agency’s interest in partnering with Planet 3R and other private sector entities to enhance youth empowerment.
Ms. Adejoke Lasisi, Managing Director of Planet 3R, reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability, economic development, and environmental stewardship. She expressed aspirations to expand operations beyond Ibadan and called for more collaborations across various sectors to promote waste recovery and recycling.
“Our goal at Planet 3R is to create a future where sustainability and social impact go hand in hand. Through partnerships with government and international organizations, we are not only transforming waste into resources but also fostering economic empowerment,” Lasisi stated.
The event showcased recycled products made from materials such as pure water nylons, textiles, and denim, demonstrating innovative approaches to waste repurposing.
