The Rotary Club of Central Business District (CBD), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a crime-free society through enhanced collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.

On Tuesday, May 27, President of the FCT Rotary Club of CBD, Rotarian Kate Adamu, spoke at a ceremony to relaunch an eight-year-old signage post designed to serve as an emergency contact point for the police. She emphasised that crime-fighting is a collective responsibility for all Nigerians, not solely the duty of security agencies. “Relaunching the signage is our public image project of the Year 2025, and it gladdens my heart that this event can attract the ‘crème de la crème’ of our respected District 9127,” Adamu said.

She noted the club’s growing influence, stating, “The Rotary Club of Abuja CBD has continued to knit its influence in the district, as witnessed by this turnout. The club desires to be the cynosure of the district by communicating exemplary corporate brandings that impact our neighbourhood and beyond.”

Adamu highlighted that the signage, first installed along Adekunle Fajuyi Close during the tenure of Charter President PAG Salome Garba eight years ago, has been instrumental for both the club and the police. “It is important to acknowledge the profound partnership we have had with the Nigeria Police Force. While we, the Rotary Club CBD, use the signpost to escalate our membership drive, the police have and will continue to use it as a distress call pad for persons needing intervention during emergencies,” she explained.

Expressing delight in the sustained partnership with the Police Force Headquarters, Adamu credited the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, for fostering a crime-free society. She cited reports indicating that the emergency numbers on the signage have been used by citizens during distress to seek police assistance.

Adamu reaffirmed the club’s commitment: “RC Abuja CBD shall continue to deepen its collaboration with the police to help them proactively fight crimes in the FCT. We will bring our wealth of experience, expertise, time, and resources to assist in educating youths on the dangers associated with illicit drug intake, internet fraud, prostitution, and cultism.”

She extended appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force and urged public-private entities within the CBD to join collective efforts to protect the environment and support the less privileged.

In a goodwill message, District Governor RC Mike Ukachi praised the Rotary Club CBD for its efforts to improve the lives of indigent FCT residents. He pledged further support, including providing two sewing machines to the Police Officers’ Wives Association.

Representing Inspector General Egbetokun, CSP El-Mustapha Sani, head of the Crime Response Unit (CRU) at Police Headquarters, expressed gratitude for the initiative. He revealed that over 18,000 FCT residents have benefitted from the signage for vital information and assistance. Sani affirmed the police’s commitment to partnering with the Rotary Club and other organisations to combat crime.
