The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young woman, Aladi Offikwu Johnson, also known as Tessy, whose unconscious body was discovered with her hands tied behind her in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The incident, which has sparked widespread concern following the circulation of a disturbing viral video, prompted immediate action from the authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement, said the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao Adewale, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that Tessy, a native of Benue State, checked into the hotel on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on Monday, June 16, 2025, accompanied by an unidentified man who later left the premises alone. Hotel staff discovered her unconscious during routine service rounds and promptly notified the police. Medical personnel later confirmed her death.
Addressing public anxiety, the Commissioner urged calm, assuring that “every effort is being made to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.” He also issued a warning to young women to be vigilant: “We advise young ladies to exercise caution in their interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, and to always share their whereabouts with trusted friends or family members for safety purposes.”
The police also called on hotel operators to enhance security measures. “Hotel operators must strengthen internal security protocols, including mandatory identity verification for guests and the installation of functional surveillance systems to aid both deterrence and investigation,” the statement added.
The FCT Police Command extended condolences to the bereaved family and promised to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses. “Further updates will be communicated in due course,” Adeh concluded.
