AS the price of crude oil continues to tumble in the world market, the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Osita Izunaso, has said that his party would not be deterred by the volatile product in its commitment to fulfill its campaign promises.
The APC chieftain restated that the major plank of the party’s manifesto was economic diversification. He made this clarification at the 14th Fellowship and Award Ceremony of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), Abuja, when he was conferred with honorary fellowship, urging Nigerians to key into the agriculture roadmap and other relevant economic programmes of the President Muhammad Buhari-led administration.
Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who was a Special Guest on the occasion, also charged the stakeholders to tap into the potentials of the sector for wealth and job creation for the army of unemployed youth.
National President of FISON, Dr. Olajide Ayinla, in his opening remarks, thanked the government for its interest in fisheries as an alternative way to putting the economy on the path of growth, adding that there was need for more incentives to the private investor.
No fewer than eleven notable Nigerians were conferred with honorary fellowship for their contributions to the development of fisheries, including the President of African Development Bank (ADB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
