Stop Hurting People Foundation (SHPF), an NGO, recently held a rally in Calabar, Cross River State where it gave succour to the less privileged in the society.
Aside ministering to over 10,000 people with bags containing rice, beans and garri, loads of Ankara were also shared including medical check ups and medications given to attendees.
The founder of SHPF, Pastor Eunice Iferi Chukwuemeka, said the desire to be a brother’s keeper gave birth to the initiative.
“The philosophy behind the charity organisation is ‘owe no man nothing but love’. Except we care, the people die in pain. SHPF was started in 2004 in memory of my late husband who was assassinated at the age of 36. He was a man who had compassion for the challenged people and provided for them in his lifetime,” she remarked.
According to Chukwuemeka, several charity outings have been held in the last 18 years. She noted that SHPF usually hold such rally three times a year, but in the past three years, it has been once annually.
“We solicit grants from governments and help from well meaning individuals so that we can reach out to more people. During the COVID, we reached out to over 10,000 Nigerians with palliatives and paid N2,000 to each of their accounts. In the period that we had Ebola in Nigeria, SHPF was the first charity organisation that went round the nation sensitising the people in collaboration with our UK volunteers, and distributing hand gloves and sanitizers,” she noted.
The pastor stated further that 19 volunteer medical personnel, doctors, pharmacists, optometrists and nurses were on ground to give medical needs to patients. Eye check ups and glasses were given according to the patients’ prescriptions.
