In a groundbreaking move, Etcetera Ejikeme, a former Nigerian radio personality, is set to launch Wahala FM, the first-ever Afrobeat radio station in the United States.
Afrobeats, a vibrant fusion of West African music genres, has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, garnering billions of streams worldwide. Artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Tems have propelled the genre to new heights, captivating listeners with their innovative sounds and thought-provoking lyrics.
Ejikeme, recognizing the genre’s growing popularity, saw an opportunity to bring Afrobeat to American audiences.
Wahala FM aims to provide a platform for both seasoned Afrobeat enthusiasts and those seeking to discover the genre’s rich heritage. The station will feature a diverse range of Afrobeat tracks, from classic Fela Kuti songs to contemporary hits by today’s rising stars.
“We want to share this unique sound with American audiences and create a community where people can connect through their love of Afrobeat. Beyond its musical offerings, Wahala FM will also serve as a hub for Afrobeat news, interviews, and special features. The station will provide insights into the genre’s history, cultural significance, and the artists who have shaped its evolution,” Ejikeme stated.
