The Newly appointed Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers (ENTRC), HRM Igwe Samuel Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi) has said that traditional rulers in the state will key into the economic development plans of Gov. Peter Mbah to move the state to a greater height.
The Enugu State Government had in a statement signed by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the secretary to the state government on Thursday announced that Gov Mbah has approved the appointment of Asadu, the traditional ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community in Nsukka Local Government Area as the new Chairman of traditional rulers council in Enugu State.
Speaking in Nsukka on Saturday, during a reception organized by the Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community to welcome him after his new appointment, the new Chairman ENTRC said that he will mobilize traditional rulers in the state to support economic policies and
development plans of Governor Mbah’s administration.
He thanked the Governor and the entire people of Enugu state for finding him worthy to chair ENTRC and pledged that his appointment will appointment will add value and usher in a positive change to the traditional institution in the state, this was even as he promised to pursue the welfare of traditional rulers.
“I thank Governor Peter Mbah for appointing me as the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, for me it is a call to serve and I will do that to the best of my ability.
“The people of Enugu State are lucky to have Mbah as their Governor because he has demonstrated high capacity and ingenuity in harnessing human and natural resources to turn around the economic fortune of Enugu State.
“I will mobilize traditional rulers in the States in support of Governor Mbah’s administration as well as key into the economic development plans of the state,” he said.
Speaking further, the United States of America trained nurse said “expect positive change in the traditional institution in Enugu State because will add value, bring speed, and momentum to the system.
“I urge traditional ruler in the state to open their minds for change as I will work to ensure that their welfare is improved upon to enable them to take care of themselves and discharge their duties comfortably,” he said.
The New ENTRC chairman thanked the people of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community for their prayer and unalloyed support and promised that he would continue to make them proud.
In a remark, Edeoga David Ajibor the Eldest (Onyishi) man in the community who was represented by Ozor Matthew Ezea said that it is a blessing and a thing of joy that their traditional ruler has been appointed as the Chairman ENTRC.
He promised that the community will continue to give the new Chairman of ENTRC their blessings and maximum support to enable him to excel in his new appointment.
Also in a remark, Hon. Kenechukwu Omeje, Youth President of the community said that the community was not surprised by the appointment of Asadu as the new chairman of ENTRC by the state government because of his unprecedented performance since he became the Igwe of Edem-Ogwugwu community.
“Edem-Ani youths are happy and excited with the elevation of our amiable traditional ruler, that is why we rolled out drums and turned out en mass to welcome and celebrate with him,” he said.
Earlier, Mrs. Grace Onyishi, the acting Town Union President of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community said that the entire community was happy about the appointment of Igwe Ogadagidi as the Chairman ENTRC and decided to come out en mass to receive back to the community and celebrate with him.
She thanked the state Governor for the appointment and expressed optimism that the Monarch will bring his wealth of knowledge and innovation to bear in the repositioning of traditional institutions in the States.
In an interview with newsmen, HRH Igwe Herbert Ukuta, the traditional ruler of Iggah community in Uzo-Uwani LGA, who was equally appointed as the 3rd Deputy Chairman of the newly constituted Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council thanked Governor Mbah for appointing Igwe Asadu as chairman as well as other members of the council to pilot the affairs of the traditional rulers in the States.
He described the appointment of Asadu as “a great thing to Nsukka zone in particular and Enugu state in general” stressing that the new Chairman is intelligent, enlightened, widely traveled, and has the capacity to take the traditional rural council in the States to a greater height.
Ukuta urged all traditional rulers in the state to give Asadu the necessary support to enable him to achieve his mission and vision.
The highlight of the occasion was different parades of cultural dancing troops and masquerade as well as shooting canon guns intermittently throughout the period of the occasion.
