Enugu State Governor Dr Peter Mbah has called on the people of Igbo Eze North, particularly traditional rulers, councillors, and presidents-general, to actively monitor ongoing projects in their communities.
The governor made this appeal during a one-day visit to the local government area. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, the governor stressed the importance of consistent monitoring, urging stakeholders to document progress with photographs and videos at least three times a week and send these records to Government House, Enugu, for necessary action.
Dr Mbah underscored the responsibility of community members to oversee contractors’ work, provide guidance, and encourage collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the timely and successful completion of smart school projects and other initiatives.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the delays caused by some contractors, warning that these setbacks could hinder the commencement of academic activities in the smart schools planned for the September 2025 session.
Commending the chairman of Igbo Eze North Local Government Area, Uche Michael Ogalla, and his deputy, Joe Abah, for their exemplary leadership, the governor noted that their election was a wise choice by the people.
In his remarks, Ogalla praised Governor Mbah’s transformative governance, describing it as unprecedented. He highlighted the governor’s efforts in improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, and sanitation, as well as reviving moribund industries.
“Governor Mbah’s vision for quality education and healthcare for Ndi Enugu is evident in the smart school projects across the state’s 260 wards and the ultramodern health facilities in both urban and rural communities,” Ogalla stated.
He added that the local government had begun constructing and rehabilitating community roads in its 20 political wards to facilitate the transportation of farm produce and improve road access ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Roads under construction include Onu-Enyanwu to Igbelle Road, Uroshi to Ugbaike Road, Mkpuru-Attama Road, Uda Market Square to Ishioru Road, and Uda-Amachalla Market to Umuachakpa Road.
Clifford Nnaemeka Obe, the member representing Igbo Eze North Constituency II in the Enugu State House of Assembly, commended Governor Mbah’s governance style and pledged the House’s support for initiatives that promote peace, security, and development in the state.
“So far, Governor Mbah’s disruptive innovation has set a new standard for governance, and it should be encouraged for the overall growth and development of Enugu State,” Obe added.
The Chairman of Igbo Eze North Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Cyril Ayogu, lauded the governor as a blessing to the state and urged the people to support him in fulfilling his campaign promises.
