Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered an investigation into the alleged shooting and murder of one Chinedu Edeh on 23rd June 2024 by a police officer at Echara Road Nsukka, in Nsukka Local Government Area of the State. It would be recalled that a yet-to-be-identified policeman had allegedly shot and killed the diseased (Chinedu Edeh) last Sunday at a relaxation centre in Nsukka following an altercation.
The incident triggered protests in the area, with youths carrying Edehâs body to the Nsukka Police Division in demand for justice.
In a press statement in Enugu yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident and said that the state Commissioner of Police has already ordered a thorough probe into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrendering it.
âThe CP has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to conduct a full-scale, thorough, and expeditious investigation to unravel the circumstances of the alleged shooting and murder of one Chinedu Edeh âmâ, by a police officer at Echara Road, Nsukka, in Nsukka L.G.A., on June 23, 2024.
âHe charges the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that everyone, especially the police officer alleged to have shot the victim, found culpable faces the full weight of the law,â he said.
Ndukwe noted that the CP commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased, adding that the victimâs remains had been deposited at the mortuary.
