From Jude Chinedu, Enugu
The Acting Surveyor General of Enugu State, Justus Chime has commended Governor Peter Mbah for acquiring the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to enhance the operations of the Survey Extra-Ministerial Department in the state.
In an interview with in Enugu, Chime who expressed his conviction that the new equipment would transform activities in the department, said that the governor recognised the importance of technological advancement thus spearheading the procurement of the instrument.
Emphasizing its significance, he noted that the machine’s ability to transmit field data directly to the office serves as a powerful tool, eliminating professional errors that may have previously occurred in surveying tasks.
Chime also highlighted a distinctive feature of the GNSS instrument, stating that, “Its special automation ability allows it to remain stationed in the field while providing real-time data for analysis in the office.”
He further explained that the data acquisition format employed by the machine facilitates seamless movement from field data to an online platform.
“This implies that once the data is input into a satellite imagery-enabled platform, it can generate an accurate location of where the data was acquired.”
“The introduction of this advanced surveying instrument marks a significant milestone, addressing the department’s needs and enhancing its capabilities.”
Surv. Chime further underscored the transformative impact of the GNSS surveying instrument on their daily operations; stating that, the machine’s unique automation ability allows it to remain stationed in the field while providing real-time data, marking a departure from traditional surveying methods so as not to only streamline the workflow but also enhance the accuracy and reliability of the collected data.
He highlighted the machine’s role in error reduction, posting that, its capability to transmit field data directly to the office is a crucial aspect of its effectiveness.
“By eliminating the need for manual data transfer and minimizing the risk of errors during the process, the GNSS instrument becomes an invaluable asset to the Survey Extra-Ministerial Department’s quest for precision in their surveying endeavors.”
