An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists has exploded along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road in Borno State, killing no fewer than eight persons and injuring several others.
It was further learnt that the explosion occurred at Gidan Kaji (Poultry House) located in the Konduga LGA around noon on Saturday as cars on a scheduled military-escorted convoy were transporting passengers from Damboa to the state capital, Maiduguri.
A hotspot for terrorist activity, the Maiduguri-Damboa Road is a strategic corridor linking Maiduguri to several local government areas in Southern Borno, facilitating both economic and military operations in the region.
The District Head of Damboa, Lawan Maina confirmed the incident.
“It is very saddened to inform you about the explosion that took place along Damboa-Maiduguri road this morning.
“A driver of a hummer bus and seven passengers died at the spot, while many others sustained various degrees of injury,” he said.
He said the injured persons have been evacuated to State Specialists Hospital Maiduguri for medical attention.
