To further demystify Physics in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and make the subject more accessible for students, Mr. Henry Osah-Okiemute, an educationist has authored a new textbook aimed at assisting senior school pupils.

The book titled: “Basic Concepts in Physics” seeks to address common challenges students face in understanding the subject, particularly through clear explanations, illustrations, and practical experiments.

Osah-Okiemute explained that many students struggle with Physics because they lack a solid grasp of its fundamental concepts. “Physics is life and my books aim to help students understand this branch of life better. I incorporate calculations and stories rooted in local contexts to make the subject more relatable than foreign textbooks, which are often sparse,” he said.

The textbook features problem-solving exercises and designed to reinforce understanding.

“We dedicate time to solving problems as illustrated in the examples, which helps students grasp theories more effectively,” he added.

To further enhance comprehension, Osah-Okiemute’s comprehensive guide simplifies complex topics, including key equations and practical laboratory experiments covering mechanics, optics, heat, and electricity.

Targeted at students preparing for exams such as NABTEB, WAEC, and those in tertiary institutions—including colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities, the book is a crucial resource for exam success.

Drawing from extensive interactions with students, Osah-Okiemute’s work aims to ignite interest in Physics, reduce failure rates, and boost learners’ confidence.

He stated that the book contains 125 pages, primarily covering introductory aspects of Physics in an accessible language suitable for laypersons.

“It provides general definitions of various Physics topics without overwhelming details, reserving more in-depth content for future editions,” he explained.

The educationist emphasized his goal to make Physics less cumbersome and more understandable for students.

“Many students perceive Physics as difficult, which creates a phobia that persists over the years. With my book, I want to simplify the subject using simple expressions and local examples to make it more relatable,” he said.

A passionate educator dedicated to making Physics achievable for all, Osah-Okiemute hails from the Isoko-speaking Delta State. His educational journey took him from St. Peter High School to Community High School Oloruntele Okeigbo, and later to Ekiti State University (formerly University of Ado Ekiti), where he earned a degree in Physics Education.

His teaching career began at Nova International School in Ado Ekiti, where he gained valuable experience during his teaching practice. During his National Youth Service in Niger State, he taught Physics and prepared students for their exams.

After service, he taught at Queenmaris College in Lagos, Noblecrest in Ughelli, and Faith Academy in Ughelli, Delta State.

The author is committed to inspiring students and making Physics more approachable.
