The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman has inaugurated an eleven years old abandoned Media Arts Studio Building at the University of Calabar.
The project alongside five others formed part of the two billion naira worth of TETFund funded projects of the University which was commissioned as part of its 36th Convocation exercise of the institution.
The massive project which started in 2013 was abandoned and the University completed it using using its draw back funds from the 2021 annual intervention funds of TETFund.
Some of the facilities in the media building includes a television studio, media resource centre, control room, electronic workshop, conference hall, lecture rooms, among others.
Besides this, other projects inaugurated by the Minister includes three lecture pavilions and two student hostels.
Speaking on the projects, Professor Tahir Mamman said he is pleased to see such projects completed and made available for use.
In his words, “I am quite impressed, there is nothing more pleasing than to see projects completed and facilities made available for the use of students to support academic activities.
“These facilities are right on spot and we encourage the institution to continue providing more facilities , and maintain them and keep them in top form”, the minister said.
He also charged the staff and students to use the facilities provided responsibly.
On her part, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Florence Obi said she is honored by the presence of the Minister and the Executive Secretary of the NUC.
She said she expects more support from from the ministry as well as the NUC so as to complete more projects.
