THE Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has assured its supporters that the party’s governorship primaries slated for June will be conducted without threat to the unity, focus and cohesion of the party.
The party in a statement issued through its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Godwin Erhahon in Benin, said the recent change of leadership in the State House of Assembly has nothing to do with the party’s primaries as was being speculated in some quarters.
“The recent change of leadership in the Edo State House of Assembly was a spontaneous reaction by majority of honourable members to internal affairs of the House. It was not instigated by any individual or group outside the House”, the statement said.
Alluding to the recent attack on the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, the statement said there was no proof that the state government had a hand in the recent attack on him.
The party however commended the Inspector-General of Police for taking over the investigation of the incident.
On the allegation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole that his Deputy hired the services of native doctor to kill him, the party said it was not the governor who accused his deputy of attempting to hire a voodooist to kill him, rather, he only, in good spirit, disclosed to his Deputy what an informant alleged against him.
“All attempts to get the informant to confront Odubu with evidence of the allegation is yet to yield result”, the statement said.
According to the APC, the clarifications became necessary to diffuse the tension being generated by the antics of those attempting to create a gulf of acrimony between the governor and his deputy.
