Rev. Nashon Azaki, Senior Pastor of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Wuse II, Abuja, has denied allegations of sexual misconduct, calling them baseless and accusing aggrieved church members of pursuing personal interests.
In a phone interview on April 27, Azaki stated, “The members were asked to present evidence, but they couldn’t. The church addressed the matter and found the allegations not genuine. They’re resorting to media trials now.”
However, concerned church members, through their legal counsel, Dr George Ogunyomi insisted Azaki is being shielded by influential figures. In a petition dated 3 February 2025 to ECWA Headquarters in Jos, Ogunyomi accused Azaki of sexual harassment and financial misconduct, criticising the leadership for failing to act despite “overwhelming evidence”.
He argued that allowing Azaki to remain violates ECWA’s ethical guidelines, eroding the church’s integrity locally and globally.
The crisis began in January 2025 when members petitioned for Azaki’s removal. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is investigating, with Azaki on administrative bail, yet still leading the congregation.
Critics note that such allegations would bar someone from public office, questioning the church’s inaction. “The ECWA Executive must act decisively to restore trust,” the members stated, warning of further damage to the church’s reputation.
