President of the Indigenous Igbo Youth Congress (IIYC), Chief Mayor Echefu, has implored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to begin to right the wrongs being in Nigeria by facilitating the unconditional release of the detained Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB)

The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgement in respect of the case against Kanu on December 15, 2023.

“The president has said he’s interested in the overall development of the entire country. If that’s the case, the problem in the South East Region caused by the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should be of serious concern to him.

“During the time of former President Muhammadu Buhari, both the lower and the appeal courts set him free, but he refused to allow the man to go.

“Next Friday, the apex court is going to give judgement over the matter; we call on the president to release Kanu as a Christmas present to the Igbo, and by doing so, he would engrave his name in the hearts of the Igbo.

“The South East has suffered enough for over three years following the incarceration of the IPOB leader.  The president should realise that he is spending so much tackling the security challenges in the region because of Kanu’s matter,” he said.
