Former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, has formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP bigwig resigned his membership of the party few months ago without joining any party until yesterday when he led thousands of PDP, LP, APGA and other opposition party leaders to the ruling party.
Anyim and the opposition party leaders were received into the APC by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Minister of Works, Sen David Umahi, his Science and Technology counterpart, Uche Nnaji and other leaders of the during the party’s grand finale rally for the July 20 local government and councillorship elections in Ebonyi State.
The APC leaders commended Anyim for the defection which they said will strengthen the party in South East and the country describing him as a man who understands the dynamics of Nigerian politics.
Other opposition party leaders in the state who were also officially received into the APC by the APC national leaders included Sen. Obinna Ogba who represented Ebonyi Central between 2015 and 2023, former Labour Party governorship candidate in the state, Chief Edward Nkwegu, former House of Representatives members, Anayo Edwin Nwonu, Peter Edeh, Lazarus Ogbee, Livinus Make, a business mogul, Kenneth Akobundu Nweke, former House of Assembly members, former local government chairmen, former commissioners, among other opposition party bigwigs.
Addressing the large crowd during the event, Anyim said he consulted widely before joining APC.
He opined that the state has always been in one party and that he could not afford to be left behind in the unity Governor Francis Nwifuru has brought in the state through all-inclusive administration.
