Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to those behind violent attacks and killings across Nigeria to respect the sanctity of human life and abandon their evil ways, saying peace is essential for the nation’s progress.

In his Easter message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, yesterday, Akpabio said the season should inspire love, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to national unity.

“For those who have taken to killing fellow human beings, maiming others and destroying property, I appeal that they respect the sacredness of human life. Easter is a period of love and I hope the atmosphere that permeates this season would cause them to jettison their evil ways, turn a new leaf and embrace peace,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to continue showing love to one another, regardless of ethnic, religious or political differences, stressing that all citizens are created in the image of God.

“I wish to appeal that we all show love to one another irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliation,” he said. “We are all created in the image of God Almighty and nothing should make us discriminate against another human being.”

Akpabio also encouraged Christians to emulate Jesus Christ’s humility and sacrifice, and to continue to pray for national leaders even after the Easter celebrations.

“Continue to offer prayers for leaders at every level in the country and God helping us, our nation will be better off,” he said.

He called on citizens to support victims of violence and other vulnerable groups during the season, reminding Nigerians never to tire of sharing and making sacrifices for one another.

On behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate, and the entire National Assembly, the Senate President wished Nigerians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
