It was double honour coming to the immediate past global president of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, as he bagged the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award and was selected for ITUC Africa chapter award in Nairobi, Kenya, recently.
Wabba was among individuals, organisations and government agencies selected for the prestigious award.
The statement from the National Productivity Centre read, “The President and Commander-i-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigerians, approved the conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award on the following Individuals, corporate organizations, ministries, departments and agencies for 2021 and 2022, respectively.”
Some other notable names on the list include the president of the Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN), Dr. Tommy Etim Okon, former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chukwuemeka Wogu, Senator Ita Enang, Abdulrasheed Bawa, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure and Folasade Yemi-Esan.
Meanwhile, the International Trade Union Confederation, Africa chapter, is expected to honour Wabba at its fifth Ordinary Congress scheduled for November 28 to 30, 2023, in Nairobi.
In a letter to Wabba, the ITUC-Africa general secretary, Kwasi Adu-Amankwah, noted that the award was in recognition of Wabba’s “important and appreciative contributions to the growth, strength, and progress of our organisation.”
“We are pleased to invite you to the fifth Ordinary Congress of the ITUC-Africa scheduled for 28 – 30 November, 2023, in Nairobi (Kenya) under the central theme: “AMKA, Africa!”. This is an invitation to an award during the Congress,” the letter read.
According to the Adu-Amankwah, the Congress will be preceded by a number of pre-Congress activities that will be held on 27 November 2023.
He emphasised that the participation of Wabba is important to the Congress going by his immense contribution to the global union and Africa while he served as the global president.
