President/Chairman of the Governing Council of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, has charged 432 Nigerians who were recently inducted into different cadres of membership of the Institute, to deliberately make themselves relevant and stand out among others at all times in their respective spheres of endeavour.
CIPM President who gave this charge at the Institute’s 52nd Induction Ceremony in Lagos, posited that one of Human Resources biggest dilemmas is knowing when to be the employer’s advocate, and when to be the employee’s advocate, hence the need for every HR professional to know when to wear the employee or employer’s shoes in different situations and contexts.
CIPM chief who charged them on HR best practice equally encouraged them to wear the CIPM badge with pride, make integrity their watchword and represent the Institute with dignity and honour.
“I enjoin you all to live the CIPM Code of Conduct and our Core Values in all your professional and personal dealings. Our core values are encapsulated with the acronym ‘SCRIPT’: S – Service; C – Creativity; R- Respect; I – Integrity; P – Professionalism; and T – Teamwork, are not just slogans but vital shaping forces – when we live by them.”
He urged inductees who passed through different routes to make continuous learning and upskilling a habit and strive to network with a community of professionals committed to staying connected, current, and relevant.
“You must take full advantage of the support system, resources, networks, learning opportunities available and engage with fellow members, share insights and collaborate on initiatives that will shape the future of HR. I assure you that the Institute will continue to explore avenues and provide platforms to deliver value to you and ensure your continuous professional development,” he affirmed.
Also speaking, the Registrar of the Institute, Oluwatoyin Naiwo, who administered the code of conduct to the new members urged them to take advantage of mentorship schemes which is a unique method the Institute deploys to sustain its tradition of quality service delivery.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Bridging the Gap Between Employee and Organisation’ a HR expert, Mrs Rachael Ikekwe, gave some practical steps to building formidable relationship in organisations which the new HR practitioners must know. “We must forster a collaborative environment, facilitate cross-functional exchange of staff and avoid acts that could expose our organizations to litigations” she admonished.
In a remark, the overall best graduating student of the Institute’s 2023 September Diet Examination, Mrs. Mobolaji Funmilola Kpedetin, who appreciated her senior colleagues said she would continue to give her best in every capacity she finds herself as she aims to be one of the highly renowned HR professionals in the nearest future.
She implored HR experts across board to carry forward the values instilled in them as the world of human management keeps evolving, hence the need to adapt to changes in the environment. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. For me, the journey has just begun” she maintained.
