Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Yusha’u Ahmed has urged corp members posted to Borno and parents not to entertain fears about security situation in the state, saying the area is now peaceful.
Gen Ahmed who was in Maiduguri on Tuesday to attend the swearing in ceremony of Batch C Stream 1 2023 Orientation Exercise of corp members, said Borno’s hospitality to visitors and emergence of peace increases confidence in the safety and protection of corp members.
“Once you are posted to Borno, people will begin to be apprehensive but when you come here, the situation is different.
Reception for corps members in Borno is very good,” he disclosed.
The DG commended the state government for the quality of facilities at the temporary orientation camp in Maiduguri. He expressed confidence the exercise will be returned to the permanent site as soon as the rehabilitation of the permanent site is completed.
Borno governor, Babagana Zulum represented by the Head of the Civil Service, Malam Fannami announced 100 bags of 50kg rice, 100 of 100kg beans, 15 Jerry Cans and 10 bulls for the feeding of the corps members.
He urged the corps members to settle down, be responsible and committed to national unity.
“You must project yourself not only for national unity but also for the economic growth of the Nigerian nation,” he counselled.
NYSC State Director, Mohammed Adamu Jiya said 824 corps members have been registered in the state for the Batch C Stream 1 exercise.
He expressed hope the orientation exercise will be successful because of commitment show by corps members.
Some corps members told The Sun their initial fears about their safety in Borno disappeared after spending days at the Orientation camp.
