Leadership of Alaba International Market have said it was making progress in discussions with the Lagos State government concerning the demolition of some buildings in the market.
Amidst the buzz generated by the demolition exercise, the market leaders reassured of its commitment to protecting the interest of businesses and shop owners.
Emphasizing the importance of transparency on the issue, Secretary to the seven-man Technical Committee on Alaba International Demolition, Chris Maduka, addressed the media after a recent meeting with Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
He said the meeting with the LASBCA’s General Manager resulted in significant progress, and that the committee anticipates making the resolutions public once they receive the final approval.
Maduka assured that the report of the committee would avail the public with a comprehensive understanding of the actions taken and decisions reached during the discussions, fostering a better-informed perspective for all stakeholders involved.
This is even as he sought to clarify certain misinterpretation by some media platforms.
“Regrettably, some media platforms had a little bit of misrepresentation of the facts, as they were which does not serve us right. I was quoted as simply commending what the government did and asking the people to corporate with the government. That is not the whole story. We went further to say that the government had enormous responsibility to ensure that an exercise like this is done diligently in line with the provisions of the law. Hence, we decided to invite the media to clarify the public because their perception is very important in issues like this.”
