Tuesday’s court proceedings were marred by a clash between supporters of detained activist Dele Farotimi and businessman Afe Babalola.
Daily Sun reported that Farotimi was sent back to prison following the adjournment of the defamation case.
It was gathered that confusion erupted after the adjournment for ruling on the bail application of Farotimi to December 20, 2024.
According to reports, supporters of both sides engaged in a shouting match as things escalated, nearly degenerating into a free-for-all on the court premises.
Some activists present in court expressed disapproval over the adjournment as Babalola’s supporters criticised them for “insulting an elder statesman” and planning to stage a protest.
Babalola’s supporters reportedly stated that nobody has the right to disturb the peace of Ekiti State.
Farotimi is facing a 16-count charge for alleged defamation and was accompanied to the court premises by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria police force and the Nigeria Correctional Center.
