The Gidan Dambe Arena in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is buzzed with excitements at the weekend as the Dambe Warriors League Season 3 takes center stage.
Concert for Growth, an indigenous production company, promoted this decade-old boxing sport to showcase African culture to the world.
According to Chidi Anyina, co-convener of the Dambe Warriors League during the event said , “Our goal is to showcase our rich cultural heritage through traditional sports like Dambe.” Anyina, a former Dambe champion, emphasized the importance of preserving African culture and traditions.
The Dambe Warriors League has attracted fans from across the country, all eager to witness the excitement of traditional boxing. Chidi Anyina, one of the victorious fighters, expressed gratitude to God for his victory over his opponent.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase our culture through Dambe,” Anyina said. “We hope to continue promoting African culture and traditions through this sport.”
The Dambe Warriors League has provided a platform for young fighters to showcase their skills and learn from experienced champions like Chidi Anyina.

Anthony Okeleke, co-founder of Voice, noted that in the past, fighters would engage in face-biting to injure their opponents. “But such tactics are now illegal, and we focus on showcasing the sport’s cultural significance.”
As the league continues, Okeleke said fans can expect more thrilling matches and a deeper appreciation for African culture while also encouraging fans to support the league and embrace their cultural heritage.
“We are proud to be part of this initiative, and we look forward to seeing more exciting matches and cultural exhibitions,” said Anthony Okeleke.
He further said the Dambe Warriors League has set a high standard for traditional sports in Africa, and it is expected to inspire other initiatives that promote African culture and traditions. “This is a great achievement, and we hope to see more of this in the future.”
