A lawsuit at 14 thanks to his genius behind a computer screen. This is the kind of story you read about in a book or watch on a blockbuster, but Goh En Wei Mervyn has lived it. We can all admit that though we all use technology in our day today, we are far from tech geniuses.
Having discovered his passion at a very young age, Mervyn didn’t hold back from showing his skills and getting himself in trouble while at it. Now a cybersecurity expert, Mervyn was served his first and last lawsuit at 14. At the time, thanks to his skills and the programming courses he’d been taking, he could build programmes. He had also explored hacks, exploits and cheats for games, most notably MapleStory.
According to Mervyn, the movie BlackHat inspired him into exploring exploits for the game, but then he turned into an ethical hacker who now works to secure and improve the tech. He now works for private companies, helping them identify vulnerabilities and secure their tech.
Given his skills and extensive interest in the industry, he quickly built a name for himself and earned his iPrep scholarship. His interests also spread towards blockchain technology and actively contributed to developing the first Bitcoin wallet.
There still so much to explore and discover in the tech world, says Goh En Wei Mervyn. He is now working on trading bots using AI; this will allow users to create unique trading strategies. At 23 years old, Mervyn has cemented his hold on the tech industry, and his curiosity keeps growing every time one is sated.
Having begun so young, he has amassed a lot of experience, which has made him a sought-after cybersecurity expert. His interest in blockchain tech has taken root, and he is helping clients use blockchain technology to disrupt the industry.
When you find a passion you want to pursue, go after it and never tire of learning. Even standing as an expert, Mervyn is always refreshing and growing his knowledge to ensure he stays on top of things.
